The Key Source — The Treating Physician

Our chart abstraction process centers on the treating physician. Physicians are recruited to act as study investigators, with responsibilities including patient selection/enrollment, chart data abstraction, data submission, and data validation. Depending on the scope of the study, patient involvement (e.g., treatment satisfaction and quality-of-life studies) and the need for data access from multiple treatment sites (e.g., patient flow and continuum of care studies), study investigators may have a more expanded role in patient recruitment and alternate site data access/retrieval. Their role is integral to ensuring high-quality data through minimization of data gaps or omissions, errors, and chart data misinterpretations that often occur in such studies. If needed, study investigators also provide qualitative feedback for greater insights on the rationale for therapy selection and prescribing decisions.
